EU consumer rights are strong — if you can prove your case

The EU gives online shoppers real leverage: a 14-day right of withdrawal, a 2-year minimum legal guarantee, and free cross-border escalation through the European Consumer Centres Network and national ADR bodies. But every one of those routes runs on evidence — the order confirmation, the date you asked to withdraw, the exact wording of the seller's refusal.

Most people only start gathering that once a dispute has already gone wrong, by which point emails are buried, screenshots were never taken, and the timeline is a guess. A missing date or a lost message is often the difference between a refund and a write-off.

Step by step

1. Download the PDF log and the Excel version.
2. As soon as a purchase looks like it might go wrong, record the order details, seller, and amounts.
3. Log every contact with the seller — date, channel, and what was said — and the exact date you exercised your withdrawal right or made a warranty/guarantee request.
4. Attach or reference screenshots of the checkout, the product fault, and any refusal.
5. Hand the completed log to your national ECC, an ADR body, or a European Small Claims Procedure filing as a ready-made evidence bundle.
