Your data is being sold — and opting out is deliberately scattered

Data brokers quietly collect your name, address, phone, relatives, income bracket and buying habits from public records, apps and store cards, then sell that profile to anyone who pays. The same profiles fuel scam calls that know your name, targeted phishing, aggressive telemarketing and, at the worst end, stalking and identity theft.

Every broker technically lets you opt out — but each has its own form, its own confirmation email and its own processing time, and brokers routinely rebuild your profile weeks later. Without a system, it's almost impossible to know which requests you've filed, which were confirmed, and which need to be sent again.

Step by step

1. Open the Broker List tab — 15 major U.S. data brokers with their official, verified opt-out links, the type of data each sells, and how hard removal tends to be.
2. Work through each opt-out link. Every one is free — if a page asks you to pay, you're not on the official opt-out.
3. Log the date you submitted each request in the Progress Tracker, and set a follow-up date two to four weeks out.
4. Mark a broker Removed once you get written confirmation, or Resubmit if your data reappears later.
5. Check the Summary tab any time for your completion rate and a live count of follow-ups that are now due.
