The Complaint That Still Said "[ Credit Bureau Name ]"

One person, one day, three identical complaints, and a template field nobody filled in.

The Text

The text is a formal letter about fraudulent accounts on a credit report. Its first sentence says the complaint is against a company named only as a bracketed placeholder for the credit bureau's name. It then cites a series of provisions of the Fair Credit Reporting Act, covering identity-theft blocking, investigation deadlines, accuracy and verification.

Where It Appeared

Kibbo found three narratives with identical text, all received on 2 April 2025 from a single location and all filed against Equifax. We classify them as a same-filer repeat: one person filing the same text three times.

The example complaint, ID 12774781, was filed against Equifax under "Problem with a company's investigation into an existing problem", with the detail "Their investigation did not fix an error on your report".

What the Companies Said

Equifax closed the example complaint "with explanation". Company responses are self-reported and not verified by the CFPB.

How to Read It

The placeholder is a sign that the text came from a form letter and was sent without being finished. It does not tell us whether the underlying problem is real. What it shows is that the CFPB receives the text as submitted, and that a company's reviewer has to work out what the consumer means from the specifics, which here are only the account numbers and dates that were left redacted in the public record.

What You Can Learn From This

  • Read your complaint once before you send it, looking for any bracketed field you have not filled.
  • Lead with the facts: which account, what is wrong, what you disputed and when, and what you want corrected.
  • Citations help less than evidence. Name one provision accurately rather than a list you cannot check.
